Chefs in training

My company closed early today but something happened right at closing time so I had to stay an hour longer, bummer.  When I got home, I was greeted by these egg custard:

They look pretty good right?  They were pretty good too.  The crust is a little hard but I'd give it an 8 out of 10.  Not too bad for second time around.

At the same time, I see Julian was at the sink giving the crabs a toothbrush message bath, one at a time.  I mean the sink only had one crab in it at a time.  He had a conversation to each crab as he scrub them down with the toothbrush.  Too bad I didn't get a picture of him cleaning them.  2.5 hours to clean 2 dozen crabs, that's some hard labor.

I think I have two chefs in training here.  I just hope they are thinking about becoming a chef of some big hotel chain instead of Chinese restaurant.

We got a lot of snow last winter.  We complaint a lot about it.  It killed my back shoveling the snow but I kind of want a lot of snow again for this winter.  Just one big snow storm (big enough to keep me home) and that's it.  I want my snow in the winter.

Putting my coaching hat on

I received an email from Julian's coach telling us that their team (the Bucks) is tie for the first place. The record now is 3 - 1. I'd like to think that it's because of Julian but I'll reserve this comment for later. During the holiday, I'm going to work on Julian so everyone will agree with me when I make that statement later in the season.

Easier said than done

We took a trip to visit Anna's grandma yesterday which is an always welcome trip for excellent cooking skill.  Yesterday, she made some 'Oyster pot pie' (ho ban) for us and they were DELICIOUS.

It's got mushroom, oyster, shrimp, etc.  Anna loves it so much that she wants to try it at home so she ask grandma to teach her how to make them.  As the explaining went on, it began to sound more and more complicated.  So grandma said just take all the already made remaining ingredient home and make them at home.  Alright, with the ingredient pre-made, we should be able to make them ourselves.  After all, we watch her made it all day yesterday.  Well, as my title said, easier said than done.  After several failed attempts that came out like an malformed aliens, we decided to do it the easy way.

They came out tasting exactly like the ones grandma made.  However, the looks is a little off........

Nice try......well, taste good so it's all good.

Julian is back at it again!

So, Julian was encouraged by his gym teacher to try out for his school's basketball team.  He made the first cut, second cut but, unfortunately, he was cut in the final cut.  Well, just as well because we're not sure how much play time he'll get.  We quickly switched over to the local parks and recs team.  We missed all the practices and the first game but it's ok, Julian is still contributing nicely to his team.  We have to somehow teach him to be a little more aggressive and rough.  He's the not the tallest nor is he the best but he's probably the biggest as in strength and size in the entire league.  If he gets into his game, not one person can stop him.  We have a nice break before his next game.......I've got to put on my coaching hat and work with him.  Their team is now 3 and 1.  So far Julian's played two of the four games.  He scored 2 points in his first game and scored 9 points today, nice.  If you are interested, check back regularly to see his progress.  I'll try to put some pictures or video up in the future.

What has the world comes to

Being in the technology field, I want to say that that's a creative way to of using it. But being a father, I say, 'What is this? This is getting too much.' I wonder if it the weighted vest that they just got, supposedly for training only, is too heavy for them that they can't even walk anywhere or get up to call the other one. Am I suppose to just laugh it off or should I praise them on the innovation. What a father to do......? Sigh.....

A different way to look at life

I was talking to Julian and I said, 'Julian, you didn't really do anything constructive today. You slept, woke up, ate breakfast, watch TV, slept again, woke up, eat lunch and then do some shopping with us.'Julian said, 'No, I rested, woke up, ate a healthy breakfast of wheat and protein, watch some entertaining educational TV program, grew for an hour, woke up, energize myself and then exercised.'

Shopping for some less fortunate kids

The company I work for does this every year. We are the Santa for this group of less fortunate preschoolers and kinder-gardeners. This year we have 40 plus kids to shop for. I bring a gift for one boy and one girl every year. I am going to shop for their presents today. We have a $20 limit on each present though. After we have all the presents together, a group of us will dress as Santa and Santa's helper to deliver the presents. It's pretty cool. For some of the kids, the one present they get from us maybe the only Christmas present they will get this year. I'll show you what I get when I have them. So, standby...

So this is what I got for the boy. It's typical for a boy but, unlike the Lego, this one has bigger pieces so it won't be scattered all over the floor for someone else to step on.

This is for the girls. It's pretty cool. You build 3D objects from these small balls that bonds together with water.
